Moving Out
I chime in on here when big events happen. This happens to be one of them.
We're moving out of New York! It happens tomorrow.
Our new residence is a bit of a distance from here in a small town in Illinois.
Our new home... will be called Windsor Manor.
I'll have to put up pictures when we arrive and then others after we've settled in a bit. It is going to be a big change for us, and I'm quite excited. I understand it is likely only a temporary move until something else comes along, but I'll take it.
If only I could click my heels and have time advance to a week from now when we will have packed everything, driven the 800-900 or so miles, unpacked, entertained family for the holiday weekend and returned the truck. If only!
Also looking forward to 'opening' up the kitchen again. As of Saturday, we shut down the kitchen for cooking and I'm having severe withdrawal. Who would have thought that I would dislike eating out every meal? It has made it easier to make our last rounds to all of our favorites in the area.
It's looking a bit like a storage shed around here with the boxes everywhere and even the table and couch deconstructed for moving. Alas, it should make tomorrow a bit easier as the third floor to main floor moving of all of our possessions accompanied by 90 degree heat should be a pleasant experience... Ha.
Checking out from Astoria NY, it's been, um, Interesting. I'll have to post my New York Time Capsule information sometime this fall.
Bring on the open road, farm stands, bugs and wide open spaces!!!!

Ho Hum
Pictures are of the group of us in the Catskills, my little friend (a red eft perhaps?) and the Kaaterskill Falls.
Just got back from a weekend up in the Catskills. I smell of fire and oddly like a short order cook at Uncle Bills. We had onions, potatoes, eggs and sausage cooked over a roasty toasty fire this morning, so at some point, I'll have to give up this lovely scent to a shower.
It's like... 97 degrees here and we're baking here in the apt. How much would it cost to buy a cool front? I rememeber near the Beijing Olympics they were creating clouds so it would rain and decrease the polution, couldn't we manufacture something like that here?
Get to pick a home grown red pepper this afternoon and another tomato. I'm so glad we have a balcony and can grow things... It keeps me sane.
I think the local pool is calling to me as are the chocolate chip cookies on the counter. Yum.

June 1
Today, I think I will start writing again. I finally got fed up with receiving spam on one post from over 2 years ago and decided to look in to it to see how many comments I had received on this one post - 57 - all spam. So, I deleted the post.
It's hot out. Inside the apt here it is 81 and humid. We installed our tiny air conditioner from the last apt just yesterday and we may yet get another one for the bedroom to make it through the next 3 sticky months.
If there is one benefit to the hot weather, it is the wonderful things it does for my 'crops' out on the balcony. --- I'm back now as just the thought of the plants out in this heat made me think to water them in with a healthy dose of fertilizer and water. Will it ever rain? We were in quite a wet spell this Spring, but it has dried out entirely in the past month.
Looking forward to our anniversary trip next weekend! June 10-13, we'll be in @$@#$%@$. Well, I can't say yet as it is a suprise for Joel, but it should be exciting! I hope the weather is nice! Maybe I should think about packing... and actually reading through the Tour Book that I bought.
A few errands to run today and then out to do census work.
Side thought: Cherries are awesome.

Last Week
Seems as if I'm missing a few updates... while this might not reflect all new things encountered on the right days, I did do a bunch of new things and likely 1 a day every day. Friday, I went to hang out with cousin Sarah and her Mom at Sheep's Meadow in Central Park. That morning, I had walked/jogged the inner circle of Central Park, a 6.2 mile feat. I was exhausted by the end of the day.
On Saturday, a group of us went up to the Cloisters along the West Hudson River, way up around 190th street. Nice park to walk and enjoy while taking in some churches reconstructed here after being sacked.
Monday, I went to the DMV... Yuck! Over 2 hours in line and all I get is a NYC license with my old name. Need a few more documents with my married name to get any further... grr. So, in a couple weeks, I might get a little farther. 6 points of identification!?!? !!!!!!! That's all I can say.
Tuesday - Found a donation center a bit closer than the 10 block walk - this one is only 2 blocks, so I trucked a few bags there, then a few more to the Goodwill and then to a Coinstar! Yay for getting rid of change in exchange for a certificate that I know I will use. Also, first sighting of a mouse in my apt. Actually, I saw it three times. Little bugger. Very Bold.
