The return of Summer... or so we thought!

With all the changes abound, we thought we were headed towards spring and summer with a grilling party in shorts and t-shirts on Saturday. MMMM..... However, mother nature seems to have confused herself a bit. Woke up to 4 inches of snow today - not 2 days after hitting 70. Oh, and we're supposed to go back to 72 on Thursday. As they say, if you don't like the weather, just wait an hour. Definitely reminds me of the 52 degree 4 hr drop from a couple years ago that went from a warm sunny day to ice and snow. Nothing like being back in St. Louis!

Good things come in bunches

New house, new job, and now, new car!

Moved!

It's March 11 and my life has changed dramatically in 11 days. Joel took the bar exam. Joel got a job in St. Louis, MO in Clayton. We are renting a house in Kirkwood and are moving in on the 19th! I no longer live in Illinois or on a farm in a 160 year old house. I went newer, only 100 year old house in a great lively neighborhood. This is a little slideshow of the outside of the house. Bring on Spring!

An inside/outside comparison. Feb 1st, a blizzard that stacked snow taller than I am and nestled the house in a beautiful landscape and inside, new life springing forth waiting patiently for sunshine and warm soil.

Standard winter crop of buttercrisp lettuce, black seeded simpson, spinach, leeks and various types of red and yellow onions.

Marked and ready to go. A new year, acres of dirt to fill and lots of varieties of seeds to plant!

How the tides have changed

6 months ago, I lived in NYC in a small apt wondering when I might be able to live in a house, live in the country side, have a garden, get a pet, spend time outside... Today, I find myself in an entirely different position.
I'm sitting in front of a fireplace, burning wood we've cut. Eating 3 seed bread, which we made from scratch. Sitting next to a decorated Christmas tree, that we grew and cut down. In a house that we own... well, that we live in. Planting seeds for a garden that I hope to have this Spring and summer. Shooing out a cat that really believes she's an indoor cat, and thinks she's a dog too.

How much more different can life be from 6 months ago?

I'm pleasantly pleased with the changes and though we may not have a job, we're making do all right.
